Discover Sommelier de Sedona
by John Gult
evening, digressing in a plush meadow green arm-chair, a local
real estate agent sits, sipping a delicious wine, awaiting
friends to join in an evening of wine tasting. Instead of
gathering for happy hour cocktails, they’re at Sommelier de
Sedona, a newly opened Wine Bar and Cellar tucked away at
the “new” Old Market Place in the heart of Red Rock Country
in West Sedona.
Only steps away, a young woman
and several of her girlfriends are lounging at the custom
built Alligator Juniper bar. They select a glass of Muller-Catoir
1998. Telling from their smiles they are pleased.
“I selected the wine because
of the name “Muller,” said Sara Mueller, “And to my amazement,
it tastes like biting into a Mango. My favorite fruit ...
delicious.” The ladies laugh ... delighted.
Owner, James V. Monaci laughs
with a “wine of a smile.” “There is a named wine for everyone,
said Monaci. For instance, there is a Katherine’s Chardonnay
from Cambria, Laura’s Chardonnay from Hartford Court, Maddalena
from the Riboli Family Vineyards, Matthews’ I 10% Meritage,
Lokoya, and Grace from Camaraderie Cellars. There is even
a wine in reference to God called Godspeed Cabernet Sauvignon.
So what is it about Sommelier
de Sedona? Sommelier is a gathering place where people are
invited to sit back, digress, converse, and learn about wines
in a cozy atmosphere, said Monaci. Sommelier offers the opportunity
to learn about different styles of wines (and ales and lagers)
where most restaurants and bars may not offer that opportunity.
The Wine List at Sommelier
de Sedona offers 68 Wines by the glass (from $4 to $32), Wine
Flights featuring specific vineyards and varitals, 68 ales
and lagers, and over 250 wine bottlings, both Old World and
New World. These bottlings are all for sale for enjoyment
at the bar or at one’s
Sommelier is part of a growing
scene of Wine Bars popping up across the nation, combining
decor and atmosphere with unique bottlings, and a lively social
experience with wine knowledge and education. The Wine Bar
furnishings offer a comfortable, warm, and causal atmosphere
with wood accents of stacked aspen, a custom built bar, milled
out of an Alligator Juniper tree (maybe the oldest bar in
Arizona, dating back more than 2000 years), a den named the
“Syrah Room” (what will be will be), an outdoor-feel dining
room, lime-stone framed double-door entry to the temperature
controlled wine cellar with wines for sale, sofa couches and
arm-chairs to “still” in, and Tuscany earth tones to smooth
your wine experience. All a welcoming touch!
You’ll enjoy a wine experience
not to be forgotten!
